The Gaza Strip is experiencing a humanitarian crisis, created by Israel and supported by the United States. Israel has imposed a blockade upon Gaza, cutting food, fuel, medical supplies, and spare parts. Egypt also participates in this blockade.
The dire lack of food, water, health care, and other material basics have brought an impoverished enclave to disaster. Three quarters of Gaza’s 1.5 million population now rely on food aid, but UNRWA — the UN Relief Works Agency which assists Palestinian refugees — has been forced to discontinue its aid deliveries. Manufacturing and food exports have also ground to a halt because of the blockade. The UN has been warning of collapse for several months.
